“Ik ontmoette John Herman voor het eerst rond 1974 - 1975. We ontmoetten elkaar op de ouderwetse manier: per post. Hij plaatste advertenties in het platenverzamelaartijdschrift GOLDMINE en in de zoekadvertentiesecties van nieuwsbrieven van fanclubs. Ik behoorde tot een aantal - zo hebben we genetwerkt met andere fans en verzamelaars.

John en ik wisselden brieven uit en ruilden Elvis-items. Toen onze relatie eenmaal tot stand was gebracht, begonnen we te telefoneren. Uiteindelijk gingen die telefoongesprekken over Elvis over vriendelijkere onderwerpen. Familie, sport en naarmate de jaren verstreken - onze gezondheidsproblemen. Hij vertelde vaak het verhaal over hoe hij een jonge kerel was in South Carolina, waar hij werd geboren, en dat hij vanaf de begindagen bij SUN Records zich aangetrokken voelde tot Elvis. Een grappig verhaal betrof het verkrijgen van de SUN-uitgave van "I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine" en hij vond het zo erg dat hij het op een dag gebruikte voor schietoefeningen. Stel je voor dat je een plaat van een SUN-label maakt! Het was natuurlijk al verkrijgbaar in de winkels toen en voordat de populariteit van Elvis explodeerde. Uiteindelijk verhuisden John en zijn gezin naar Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Een klein stadje ongeveer 72 kilometer ten oosten van Pittsburgh langs de Pennsylvania Turnpike. Pittsburgh zou uiteindelijk een grote rol spelen in zijn liefde voor Elvis. John heeft mij enorm geholpen bij het opbouwen van mijn Elvis-collectie. Hij was genereus voor mij, onder andere door het verhandelen van audiocassettes, cassettebandjes, videobanden, films en platen. We werden zulke goede vrienden dat hij me drie Sun Records schonk, twee 45 RPM's en één 78 RPM. Naarmate de jaren vorderden, nam hij veel Elvis-concerten op. Hij zag Elvis op tournee in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Virginia en op andere plaatsen, waaronder Elvis 'laatste twee optredens in Las Vegas. Hij deelde veel daarvan met mij en andere fans. Hij hielp me zelfs om naar een aantal van die shows te gaan en deelde zijn toegang met mij - ik ben hem eeuwig dankbaar. Zoals velen van ons begon hij de shows op cassettebandje op te nemen. Een proces dat een leerervaring was voor degenen onder ons die zoiets deden. Hoe meer shows je opneemt, hoe beter je erin wordt. Hetzelfde gold voor het maken van foto's of Super 8-film. Bij
op een gegeven moment werd je steeds beter.

De interactie tussen het personeel van Elvis, zijn vader en uiteindelijk Elvis zelf gaf John redelijk goede toegang tot zijn held. Het is een verhaal dat ik in latere edities zal vertellen. Elvis hield van politieagent en dat was het beroep van John: politieagent voor zijn geboorteplaats. John raakte op persoonlijke basis bevriend met zijn held. De audio-opnamen die hij maakte, de foto's die hij maakte en zelfs de iconische films die hij maakte zijn legendarisch geworden in de wereld van Elvis. Nu een groot deel van de oorspronkelijke groep Elvis-fans en -verzamelaars is overleden, is hij een van die namen en verhalen die relevant moeten blijven. Hij heeft ons veel mooie momenten en herinneringen nagelaten waar we allemaal nog steeds van genieten.”

Straight Arrow had het geluk een onlangs teruggevonden exemplaar van de eerste generatie te bemachtigen van de originele, door het publiek opgenomen band van deze show, afkomstig uit de verzameling van Amerikaanse fans. Dit historische concert was nooit eerder in goede geluidskwaliteit verkrijgbaar - tot nu toe! Elke seconde werd verbeterd om de optimale luisterervaring te bereiken. Summer Festival: Reflections Of '71 Deel 3: Van het label 'Stage Recordings' een set van 3 cd's met 3 door het PUBLIEK opgenomen liveshows uit augustus 1971. Nog drie rockende shows uit hetzelfde seizoen. Deze set bevat veel hoogtepunten, zoals 'Get Back' van de Beatles, dat Elvis dit seizoen slechts vijf keer zong. "Sweet Caroline" stond dit augustusseizoen vrijwel vast op de setlist, maar keerde in 1972 niet meer terug. Prachtige vertolkingen van nummers als "I'm Leavin", "Bridge Over Troubled Water" en "It's Impossible" staan ook op deze set.

Vooral omdat er nog geen klankbordopnames zijn opgedoken, zijn deze door het publiek opgenomen shows het enige waar we van kunnen genieten.
